Phoenix will host the next ASLTA conference which is officially the fifth National Professional Development Conference at Arizona Biltmore Resort & SPA in Phoenix on October 29 – November 1, 2009. Gerry Francini is chair with Judie Cronlund, vice-chair, Larry Forestal, secretary, and Judy Mohan, special assistant. More than 400 conference participants are anticipated from across the nation and some foreign nations. The conference will include a keynote speaker, diversity of presenters of professional development workshops, booth exhibits, and Western style dance-social event. The 2009 ASLTA Conference at Phoenix is encouraging the active and dynamic participation among members, professionals, and friends. For those who are interested should immediately check http://www.aslta.org/ for the Early Bird registration form and then complete and mail it to: Special Assistant Judy Mohan as soon as possible. The ASLTA is dedicated to the continuous and professional growth of teaching ASL and Deaf Studies. It is an individual membership organization comprised of ASL and Deaf Studies teachers, program directors, linguists, interpreters, and researchers ranging from elementary education to higher education.

Call for Papers

The American Sign Language Teachers Association has issued a Call for Papers.

You can obtain the paperwork in two formats:
PDF: Call for Papers, PDF format
(print, fill out and mail the paperwork, or scan and e-mail it as directed, along with any additional materials)
or
Word: Call for Papers, Word format
(fill out the paperwork, save the completed form on your computer for your records, then e-mail it as directed, along with any additional materials)

 

If you would like to present a workshop during the ASLTA Conference in October 2009, please submit your proposal by March 31, 2009.

 
Sign Media, Inc. Awards 12 Scholarships for ASLTA Certification!

Showing its support of ASLTA and the certification of ASL teachers, Sign Media has donated $2000 to pay for the certification of 12 ASL teachers.  The teachers were chosen from applications submitted at the ASLTA Conference.  Four applications from each of the three certification levels were chosen.  The winners are:

New Date for ASLPI and SLPI: ASL!

Previously it was announced that starting July 1, 2008, ASLPI and SLPI: ASL will be required for Provisional evaluation.  The date has be changed to January 1, 2009.
